Impact opportunity - Children's home in Ocotal, Nicaragua
Compasion International and our friend, and 1st place COE winner, Luis Alberto Balladarez.
Besides producing some of our favorite coffees, Luis also makes a difference in his community. Earlier this year, I asked him about the best way to support orphans in his local community. His response? “Buy my coffee.” It’s easy to overlook the impact we can have by being a regular source of income in these impoverished communities. With the disruption COVID is causing in coffee growing regions, access to US markets is more important than ever.
We also have the opportunity to give back directly by sponsoring children through Compassion International.
Our friends at Carabello Coffee in Newport, KY partnered with Luis to get Compassion International introduced to the Ocotal area, specifically a gang influenced neighborhood in his city called Barrio Sandino. As a pastor of a local church, Luis shared his desire for children there to have the hope of a future that was not dominated by gang activity and violence. Today, there are 185 children and their families being helped through this Compassion International center.
If you are interested in sponsoring children in need there, you can find out more here.
